Holding a candle to devotion,
I'm committed to every element that exists
outside myself
And in this narrow street where I've decided
to stand bare
I see the light of indecision flicker and flicker
As you walk towards me through the hesitant yellow.
.
In the peaceful, almost bland corner
we gather in silence.
Where you choose to rest your head or what to say
are always caught in the glow
(I wish to be a hawk and fly over
every river paused,
to see what it carries and how much it weighs
to stay afloat)
I wish you opened up your skull to let the terror
find its home,
To stop dressing every digression to code
Although I'll never see your lips mouth the words:
"I digress"
.
And the momentum cries out loud
Again and again and again
Wanting to unmoor.
If you should let your hands rest
where they want to rest
Let your words set a truthful and imperfect stage
Let your soul peek outside for just a little while;
All the birds could fly without worry
All the flames could burn in plain sight
All the eyes could finally meet.
